KIIS FM radio host Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins has opened up about the moment his baby son accidentally chopped off his own big toe.
Jase discussed the situation on Wednesday on the Jase & Lauren Breakfast Show, revealing that 16-month-old Archie found a meat cleaver in a cupboard last week.
He said he turned his back on Archie for just a moment – and in that brief period his son inadvertently chopped off the tip of his big toe.
‘Archie starts pulling stuff out of this cupboard we haven’t been in for five years and that’s when he pulls out a meat cleaver,’ he told co-host Lauren Phillips.
‘He took the top of the toe off, down to the nail but it’s growing back. He was fine, he cried a little bit. It could have been so much worse.’

The veteran radio host then described the aftermath in graphic detail.
‘There was so much blood coming out. The house looked like you had filmed Law and Order there, there was blood everywhere,’ he said.
Fortunately, the story has a happy ending as they quickly rushed Archie to hospital and the doctors were able to sew the tip back on.

Jase and his wife Lou welcomed their third child Archie in January last year.
They are also proud parents to Felix, nine, and Huddy, seven.
The veteran presenter Jase revealed the family had been in self-imposed isolation to avoid catching Covid in the weeks leading up to the arrival, so Lou wouldn’t face giving birth alone.

Jase took an extended leave of 10 weeks from the show to await the birth of Archie, and enjoyed being in a ‘blissful baby bubble’ with his family.
In October 2021, Jase shared the news on-air that the family were expecting a new addition, and had gone through IVF to get pregnant.
‘Last year we ended up doing IVF, and a big shout out to anyone going through that because I know it is not easy and lucky for us it worked,’ he said.
