Rangers confirm appointment of former Man United man as chief executive officer six months after his predecessor’s departure

Rangers have confirmed the appointment of their new chief executive officer, formerly of Manchester United.

The position had been vacant for almost six months following the departure of James Bisgrove at the end of May.

Bisgrove left Ibrox in order to take up a new role in the Middle East.

Rangers, however, have moved to make a high-profile appointment, with Bisgrove’s successor having previously worked at Old Trafford.

The new appointment will start work on December 16.

Rangers praised the individual for his ‘vast experience and knowledge’. 

Rangers have appointed Patrick Stewart, who previously worked for Manchester United

Rangers have appointed Patrick Stewart as their new CEO, as reported by the club’s official website.

Stewart initially worked for TEAM Marketing, the agency that is responsible for UEFA club competitions.

He then joined Man United in 2006, where he was responsible for all legal and regulatory matters under the title of General Counsel and Company Secretary.

Stewart joined United’s board in 2019, which led to him negotiating player contracts, while he also helped to oversee the creation of the club’s professional women’s team.

In 2023 he became United’s interim Chief Executive Officer, which included him integrating new shareholders and directors into the club.

He has also been a member of various working groups within the FA, the Premier League and the European Club Association. 

Rangers interim chairman John Gilligan said: ‘On behalf of the board, I’m delighted to welcome Patrick to the club as CEO.

‘Patrick comes with an excellent reputation and background, bringing extensive experience of operating at senior levels during his 20-plus years in football.

‘The board continues in discussions with several excellent candidates for the role of Chairperson and expect to make an announcement of an appointment in the coming weeks.’
