- Ally McCoist performs version of Rapper’s Delight on talkSPORT radio show
- The Rangers legend dismissed a sheet of lyrics as he knew them from memory
- McCoist altered the original lyrics to include his own name, an impressive feat
It’s been 17 years since Ally McCoist last took to a football pitch as a professional and it comes with no surprise to discover that he has since found other hobbies to occupy his time.
Few would suspect that the Rangers legend would take to the world of amateur rapping, though, but that appears to be exactly what he has done after revealing his MC skills on morning radio.
McCoist was happy to accept the challenge of replicating The Sugarhill Gang’s 1979 hit ‘Rapper’s Delight’ on Alan Brazil’s talkSPORT breakfast radio show and could even spit lyrics from memory.
If you watch one thing today then make sure it’s Ally McCoist doing ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by The Sugarhill Gang!

The Scotland and Rangers legend knew the words to ‘Rapper’s Delight’ off by heart
His performance included hand gestures and an adapted chorus to include the words ‘Big Al’, personalising the iconic song that helped to introduce hip-hop to the music world almost 40 years ago.
McCoist enjoyed a stellar football career with Rangers, scoring 405 goals in 777 professional games, 355 of which came in the blue shirt of Rangers.
Those goals helped the Glasgow outfit to 10 Scottish league titles, one Scottish Cup and nine Scottish League Cups.
He also helped Rangers climb from the depths of the Scotland’s fourth tier to the Championship in a three-year spell as manager before leaving in 2014.
McCoist, who also became a cult figure on the BBC’s Question of Sport, now enjoys a punditry role with BT Sport.
