Rangers transfer latest: Ibrox club interested in Serbian midfielder Sasa Zdjelar, who is currently playing in Russia

Rangers are showing interest in Serbian international midfielder Sasa Zdjelar.

Currently playing in Russia with CSKA Moscow, the 29-year-old could be allowed to leave on a free after FIFA granted foreign players the right to suspend their contracts with Russian clubs due to the war in Ukraine.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Zdjelar can also operate as a central defender.

Currently earning £15k a week after tax, the player – capped nine times for Serbia – has interested clubs in Germany.

Reports in Russia suggest that Rangers have also asked about his availability.

Precisely how much business Rangers plan to do in the January window remains unclear.

Speaking after the 3-3 draw with Hibs, manager Philippe Clement said new Chief Executive Patrick Stewart would be addressing Rangers’ transfer intentions in the next few days.

Asked whether the club are any closer to new arrivals this month, Clement said: ‘I think every manager feels that, and for sure in the situation we are.

‘For the moment with injuries and everything, but there’s also the situation of the club.

‘You need to pay it also, and I’m not the one who can pay that. I don’t have that money.’
