Rap group The 046 forced to cancel performance after clash with NSW police over security concerns

The 046 were forced to cancel their upcoming performances in Sydney and Wollongong over the next week due to security fears.

The Western Sydney hip hop group are the latest drill rap musicians to have their live shows shut down because of NSW police, reported The Advertiser on Saturday.

On Friday, they announced they couldn’t afford the security requirements cops imposed on their shows at UniBar and Oxford Art Factory, forcing them to cancel.

‘Due to reasons beyond our control, our upcoming Sydney and Wollongong shows have been cancelled due to NSW police putting additional security costs to the point where we would be losing significant money by going ahead with the show,’ the group said in a statement.

‘To say that we are disappointed is an understatement – we know our fans will share those feelings and we are sorry.’

The 046 were slated to perform in Wollongong’s UniBar on August 19 and Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on August 25 as part of their national tour Rhythm & Gutta.

However, NSW police advised the venues to hire and implement additional security to be paid for by the show organisers, which The 046 were unable to do.

After issuing refunds to disappointed fans, the group went on to say their opportunity to celebrate and uplift their community was taken from them.

Nevertheless, they ‘will not be deterred by this setback’ and intend to continue the rest of their national tour.

The group has seven more shows scheduled in Canberra, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Hobart, Adelaide, Bunbury and Perth from August 26 to September 16.

Their clash with NSW police comes just a few months after controversial drill rap group OneFour released a video of their own tense standoff with cops.

They were barred from performing a walkout song for Australian boxing star Paulo Aokuso at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena.
