A rare corner apartment at the top of New York City’s famed Plaza Hotel is now on the market for $15.9 million.
The two-story 4,000-square-foot apartment has four bedrooms and bathrooms and is within the private residences of the Plaza Hotel on the southeast corner of Central Park.
The historic Plaza Hotel, designed in French Renaissance chateau-style and built at the beginning of the 20th century, has been featured countless times in pop culture – in movies, television shows and books, such as Eloise at the Plaza.
In fact, the apartment’s living room is inspired by the eponymous protagonist of the book series by Kay Thompson, which was later turned into a film by Disney. In the books and the film Eloise is said to live on the ‘tippy-top floor’ of the building.
The top floors are private houses and connected to the hotel providing access to its many amenities, including twice-daily housekeeping, 24-hour room service, butler service and a concierge.

The living room is one of the largest in The Plaza and has 12-foot-high ceilings, a gas fireplace, several sitting areas and a bar area, according to Brown Harris Stevens, the agent listing the apartment.
Its large dining room has two French doors overlooking the hotel’s landscaped courtyard gardens in the center of the building and the fountains below. The large table can easily accommodate 12 or more for a seated dinner.
But it’s the master bedroom that may stand out most to potential buyers, which is described by the agent as ‘a quiet oasis with substantial closets and an enormous spa-like bath.’

The kitchen has marble countertops and stainless steel appliances.

The Plaza was once owned by Donald Trump after he bought it in 1988 for $407.5million. ‘This isn’t just a building, it’s the ultimate work of art. I was in love with it,’ he famously said at the time.
It is one of the main settings for Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – Trump makes a cameo appearance in the Plaza’s lobby.
Most recently in 2018 it was sold to the state of Qatar for around $600million via its government-owned fund Katara Hospitality.
The hotel’s main entrance is on Fifth Avenue, on the building’s west face, and the residential entrance is at One Central Park South, also known as 59th Street, on its north face.
Additionally, the owner of the apartment will have direct access to the hotel’s Palm Court, Champagne Bar, Rose Club, Warren Tricomi Salon, Terrace Room, Grand Ballroom, Guerlain Spa, fitness center, shops and the private gardens and fountains, according to the agent.
‘It’s a living room that feels like a ballroom,’ Brian Manning, of Brown Harris Stevens, told Mansion Global.
‘It’s enormous,’ Manning said. ‘Coming down that staircase into the room is quite grand.’
‘The thing that is just so special about The Plaza is the location,’ Manning’s colleague Christopher Franklin said. ‘You’re on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park is your backyard.’
