Dalvin Cook has been signed to the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad following his New York Jets release, according to reports.

The Jets waived Cook ahead of their final game of the NFL season following his disastrous campaign at MetLife Stadium, despite signing him to a one-year deal worth $7million – including $5.8m guaranteed – back in August.

And according to ESPN, after going unclaimed on waivers the running back is now set to join the Ravens.

Cook’s agency is said to have confirmed that their client will be signing for Baltimore’s practice squad as he looks to get his career back on track after his failed stint in New Jersey.

The Ravens are heading into this season’s NFL playoffs as the AFC’s No 1 seed and have earned themselves a first-round bye, meaning they can evaluate Cook over the next fortnight before their Divisional Round game on either January 20 or 21.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection’s Jets spell never got off the ground after star quarterback Aaron Rodgers was lost for the season with a torn left Achilles tendon four snaps into his debut.

He has a career-low 214 yards rushing on 67 carries and no touchdowns, and was recently surpassed by rookie Israel Abanikanda as the backup to Breece Hall in the Jets’ backfield. Cook also has just 15 catches for 78 yards – also career lows.

Baltimore currently has the NFL’s No. 1 rushing attack, although its backfield is plagued by injuries with JK Dobbins and Keaton Mitchell both out for the season.

Starting back Gus Edwards has produced 13 touchdowns this season but has struggled to produce big plays, putting up an average of 40.6 yards per game rushing and 3.6 yards per carry over his last seven games.

The Ravens’ other running backs are Justice Hill and nine-year veteran Melvin Gordon.

NFL Network first reported on Tuesday that Cook and the Jets had mutually agreed to part ways, citing the player’s agents.

‘Dalvin has been great,’ New York coach Robert Saleh said last Friday. ‘I know this has been a hard season for him. It´s been a hard season for all of us. I appreciate the heck out of his professionalism and the way he goes about his business and who he is around the building, the support he gives his teammates and the support he gives the running back room.’

Saleh also acknowledged that Cook was feeling frustrated by his lack of playing time.

‘I haven’t played professional football, but being around it, you know when a player is hurting and I know he’s hurting, but his story is not over,’ Saleh said. ‘He still has plenty of juice in his legs, but he’s been great.’
