Ray Lewis’ reason why Ravens chose not to sign Kaepernick

Ray Lewis believes the Baltimore Ravens chose not to sign Colin Kaepernick because his girlfriend posted a tweet comparing the team’s billionaire owner Steve Bisciotti to a slave master.

MTV host Nessa Diab uploaded a post comparing a picture of Lewis hugging Bisciotti to a scene from Django Unchained, where Samuel L. Jackson’s house slave held Leonardo DiCaprio’s plantation owner.

The former linebacker claimed Bisciotti was in talks to sign free agent Kaepernick, but changed his mind when he saw the tweet.

‘We were going to close the deal to sign him,’ Lewis said on Showtime’s Inside the NFL on Tuesday night.

‘Steve Bisciotti said: “I want to hear Colin Kaepernick speak to let me know that he wants to play football.”

‘It never happens because that picture comes up the next day.’

Diab is an MTV host and Hot 97 DJ who has dated Kaepernick for the past two years.

She compared Bisciotti to a slave master and Lewis to one of his captives on Twitter after reports revealed they had hesitations about signing the football-playing free agent.

Diab, 36, did this by stacking an image of Lewis hugging Bisciotti after the 2012 Super Bowl on top of a remarkably similar one from the film ‘Django Unchained.’

That still showed the sycophantic senior house slave Stephen (played by Samuel L. Jackson) hugging his lecherous owner Calvin Candie (played by Leonardo Dicaprio), who in the film rapes and beats his staff.

Diab kept the caption simple, posting nothing but a bullseye emoji and Lewis’ Twitter handle.

Kaepernick caused controversy last year when he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice in the United States.

One season later, Kaepernick is out of the NFL though his presence remains strong as a growing number of players are following in his footsteps to protest during the anthem.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers claimed Kaepernick is being blackballed by NFL teams because of his anthem protest and not for any supposed lack of ability.

‘I think he should be on a roster right now,’ Rodgers said. ‘I think because of his protests, he’s not.’

Kaepernick has had an up-and-down career as an NFL starter, but his statistics are comparable and even superior to some current highly-paid quarterbacks.

Not only did the former Nevada Wolfpack star lead the 49ers to three conference championships, but he even helped San Francisco to Super Bowl XLVII, where the 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

In 2012, he led the NFL with 8.6 yards per passing attempt, and while Kaepernick’s career record as a starter is just 28-30, he has tossed for 72 career touchdowns and just 30 interceptions.

For comparison’s sake, the Miami Dolphins recently gave a one-year, $10 million contract to previously retired quarterback Jay Cutler, who twice led the NFL in interceptions and has a 68-71 record as an NFL starter.

The Cleveland Browns, meanwhile, will pay $16 million for backup quarterback Brock Osweiler this season.
