League One side Reading have teased a pre-season social event by posting a crazy clip of a man being hit by a bus before casually walking away.

The Berkshire club finished 2023/24, their first season back in the third tier, nine points clear of the drop, despite a series of points deductions.

The Royals will begin the new League One campaign on August 10 with a trip to Birmingham City, who were relegated from the Championship last year.

And with anticipation for the new season building, the club promoted an event prior to their first game in bizarre fashion by sharing the bizarre clip on the club’s X page.

The video in question went viral back in 2017 and has shocked fans on social media by its use.

The clip displays a pedestrian on the streets of Reading being hit by a purple bus, which is out of control, and smashed into the ground at speed.

After the collision that you would expect to cause serious harm to the man, he simply gets up within seconds and strolls into a purple shop.

The shop in question is in fact a bar known as the Purple Turtle and it is iconic to the Royals faithful.

Within half an hour of posting the shocking video, the club shared a follow-up post which revealed that they will be hosting a pre-season social event at the bar on August 8.

Many fans found the tactic of using the video as hilarious, with the post gaining over one million views.

Some fans saw the funny side of it, with one social media user saying: ‘Crazy promo admin, I like it.’

However, not all fans were happy with its use. One fan replied on their X account, posting: ‘That’s not appropriate.’

Purple seems to be a theme within the football club as the team’s third strip last year was predominantly in the colour.

The club are still yet to release their third kit ahead of the new season, and it is yet to be seen if they will adorn the colour again.
