Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin’s wife aims dig at Kepa Arrizabalaga in now-deleted Instagram post… after the Spaniard’s error-strewn display in Spanish Super Cup win over rivals Atletico

  • Would Tottenham be clear at the top of the league if they hadn’t lost some of their best players to injury? It’s All Kicking Off

The wife of Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has taken a dig at Kepa Arrizabalaga after the Spaniard’s error-strewn display against rivals Atletico.

Kepa had a night to forget despite his side reaching the Spanish Super Cup final after a 5-3 victory.

Though he could do little to stop either of Atletico Madrid’s first-half goals, he gifted them the lead in the 78th minute when he punched the ball off team-mate Antonio Rudiger into the back of the net.

Los Blancos ultimately took the game to extra time after Dani Carvajal’s late equaliser, before goals from Joselu and Brahim Diaz ensured Carlo Ancelotti’s side will play in Sunday’s final.

Anastasia Nastasica, wife of reserve keeper Lunin, took a shot at Arrizabalaga in a now-deleted Instagram post.

She shared a picture of the pair from Christmas with the caption: ‘For sure, number 1’ – indicating her man should be starting ahead of Arrizabalaga.

Ukrainian keeper Lunin signed for Real Madrid in 2018, but has struggled to win his place in the starting XI.

Kepa meanwhile joined the club on loan from Chelsea last summer, following a season-ending ACL injury sustained by long-term No 1 Thibaut Courtois.

He has made a number of high-profile errors since his arrival, including on his debut against Celta Vigo and in the Champions League against Napoli.

Against Celta Vigo he failed to deal with a tame long-range shot while against Napoli he tried to punch out a corner – only to miss the ball entirely – and the Italian side were able to put the ball in the back of the net.

Against Atletico, his team-mates were able to get him out of trouble in a thrilling contest.

Ancelotti has rotated Arrizabalaga and Lunin this season, with the Ukrainian shot-stopper more regularly playing in LaLiga over the last two months.

After starting 11 out of Madrid’s opening 12 league games, Arrizabalaga has recently missed two games through injury and been left on the bench behind Lunin in an additional four matches.

They will face either Barcelona or Osasuna in the Supercopa de Espana on Sunday, though it remains to be seen whether Kepa keeps his place after his struggles against Atletico.
