Former Real Madrid manager and player Jorge Valdano has warned Marcelo he will need to wake up if he is to contain Mohamed Salah in the Champions League final.

‘They should give him a photo of Salah so that he starts to include him in his prayers and begins to better look after his wing,’ Valdano said after Madrid drew 2-2 with Barcelona on Sunday.

‘The Real Madrid defence needs to be more attentive, especially against Liverpool because they are a team that lives off of the mistakes of their rivals.’

Marcelo’s pal Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, looks set to rest during the next two games after spraining his ankle against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

The club have given no time frame for his return but Zidane indicated on Sunday night that the player was already confident the injury was not serious.

Madrid play Sevilla on Wednesday and are home to Celta Vigo at the weekend. The following weekend they finish the league season away at Villarreal.

Ronaldo expects to be back to play 90 minutes in that game, a week before the final in Ukraine.
