Reality Winner seeks release from jail ahead of trial

Reality Winner, the former NSA contractor accused of leaking classified documents, is seeking her release from jail before her case goes to trial.

Winner, 25, has been remanded in Lincoln County Law Enforcement Center in Georgia, after it was decided that she was too much of a flight risk to be allowed out on bail during her arraignment on June 9.

She was charged with ‘willful retention and transmission of national defense information,’ after allegedly leaking documents about Russian hacks on the US presidential election to a media company.

On Sunday, Winner and her mother Billie Jean Winner-Davis, both submitted letters to the court asking for her release.

In her plea, Reality states she has ‘great respect for the United States of America,’ having turned down a full engineering scholarship at the University of Texas A&M to serve in the Air Force for six years.

As a self-proclaimed vegan who eats Kosher, Winner revealed in her letter that she has ‘suffered health problems’ and is taking medication to aid in her digestion of prison food.

The former Airwoman, who served as a linguist fluent in Farsi and Arabic, also made note of her active lifestyle, stating she intends to continue to teach yoga and spinning class if she is released.

In June, she was photographed practicing yoga and doing exercises in the prison yard.

If released, she has agreed to ‘not possess any electronic device capable of accessing the internet,’ and to avoid communication with ‘any media outlet.’
