Really cheeky! Watch dogged spider monkey climb on to US tourist pull her t-shirt down and cling on despite her hilarious efforts to disentangle

This is the moment a dogged spider monkey climbed on to a US tourist, pulled her t-shirt down and clung on despite her hilarious efforts to break free.

The video shows the persistent monkey wrapping its long arms, legs and tail around the woman’s body in Cancun, Mexico.

As the animal clambers up the woman’s legs using its prehensile tail and latches itself on to the tourist’s shirt, panic soon sets in as she tells her friend: ‘I don’t know what to do y’all. I’m scared.’

She then proceeds to kneel down to the floor in an effort to disentangle from the primate who wraps its arms around her neck to cling on.

The tourist, who looks visibly anxious throughout the video, repeats ‘I’m scared again’ as her friend tries to wind her up by joking that the monkey is going to bite her.

The monkey then cheekily pulls the woman’s shirt down, exposing her bra underneath, as she screams and shouts ‘bye bye, go go go’ at it.

In the video, the woman tries multiple ways to get the spider monkey off her including kneeling down

The woman then starts to walk away while holding on to the monkey’s hand in an attempt to pry it away from her, but it shows no signs of letting go of her shirt.

‘Somebody take the monkey, I’ve got to go, dude,’ she then shouts as the monkey clings on.

The American tourist then starts spinning round in a bid to get the monkey off her but she still can’t break free, sending her friend into fits of laughter.

She then asks another man: ‘Sir, please can you take the monkey?’ adding: ‘She does not want to let go.’

After about a minute of the monkey grasping onto her, she finally manages to escape before the video, which was filmed in July but has just emerged, cuts off.

Spider monkeys are large New World monkeys that live in tropical rainforests from Mexico down to the north of Bolivia. They get their name from the way their long limbs and tails resemble spider legs as they dangle and swing from branches.

Spider monkeys have a prehensile tail which is capable of grasping and so its acts as a fifth limb. They tend to live for an average of 22 years.

There are seven species of spider monkeys, all of which are under threat. The brown spider monkey is critically endangered and is one of the rarest primates in the world with only around 250 left.

Spider monkeys don’t like to live alone and usually live in groups of about 30 individuals. Females usually give birth to a single baby each year or two.

This is not the first time female tourists have been targeted by cheeky animals.

In May, video emerged of a ‘notorious’ orangutan groping a woman’s breasts at a Thai zoo.

Panisara Rikulsurakan, 26, was visiting Bangkok’s Safari World in Thailand when she stopped to sit down and pose with the cheeky primate named Nhong.

In the video, Ms Rikulsurakan sits down on a bench in front of the orangutan who needs no invitation to wrap his long arms around her in an affectionate manner.

Shortly after, Nhong then flashes a smile at the crowd before bringing the woman in closer to cheekily kiss her on the cheek as she and those watching on break out into fits of laughter.

The orangutan then briefly removes his arms from Ms Rikulsurakan before placing them back on her – this time straight onto her breasts.

Nhong has learned the habit of touching women’s breasts and kissing them with encouragement from the handlers and other visitors, but this has been condemned by animal rights groups such as PETA.
