Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom know what it’s like to break up.

After all, the quirky couple split just months after going official in January 2016, having bonded over a mutual love of fast-food chain In-N-Out at a Golden Globes afterparty.

Despite insisting that they remained friends, parting ways could not have been easy no matter how much they tried to soften it with Hollywood jargon about ‘taking respectful, loving space at this time.’

So, it is perhaps no surprise that the A-list couple, who are currently living more than 10,000 miles apart, are so desperate to focus on their relationship before it becomes ‘too late’ to save it for a second time.

The source of their ‘rough patch’ is believed to be the circus around Perry’s much-maligned 143 album, somewhat doomed Lifetimes Tour and cringe-worthy space flight, all of which Perry has found ‘disappointing and stressful.’

‘Katy has been through it the last few months,’ an insider told the Daily Mail. ‘Leaving American Idol, releasing her lackluster album, the debacle over her space mission, and her struggling tour have been disappointing and stressful.’

‘There aren’t many people she can dump her emotions on, but obviously she can with Orlando. But with his work and juggling parenting, life as of late has put a strain on their relationship,’ the source added.

Bloom, 48, and Perry, 40, quickly went Instagram official in Cannes and made headlines with a brazen naked paddle boarding session not long after they first met. They briefly broke up in 2017, but by March 2018 they were officially back on.

They got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2019, with Bloom presenting the singer with a floral diamond ring, believed to be worth an eye-watering $5 million, in front of family and friends.

But their wedding was put on hold after the coronavirus pandemic ruined their planned nuptials in Japan in summer 2020. They welcomed their daughter Daisy that August.

Despite playing coy about their relationship, Perry seemingly started to leverage their romance amid the backlash over her single, Woman’s World, last year, and fell into the trap of ‘sex sells.’

She shared graphic information about their sex life – namely that she offers up oral sex if he completes household chores – as well as uploading topless pictures of the British actor on social media. They also enjoyed a steamy on-stage kiss after she performed live at the MTV VMAs and packed on the PDA at an Oscar’s afterparty.

On its release in September, 143 became the lowest scoring album on Metacritic since 2011. Despite being billed as an empowering feminist anthem, lead single Woman’s World was savaged for being stereotypically sexualized and regressive.

The criticism was no doubt fueled by Perry’s unsettling collaboration with Dr. Luke, the music producer accused of sexual assault by Kesha in a lawsuit that was later dismissed. Dr. Luke has consistently denied the allegations.

Any hope of clawing back public favor with her accompanying Lifetimes Tour was soon thwarted when Perry was forced to cancel two early concerts in Guadalajara, Mexico, in May as the stadium she was scheduled to perform in was not built in time. She suffered further humiliation when clashing sporting fixtures derailed later dates in Denver, Colorado and Dallas, Texas.

To make matters worse, she was beset with poor ticket sales for the US leg and accusations of using AI generated visuals.

Before she had even hit the road, the beleaguered singer was already facing an uphill battle following her much-derided space flight.

Perry joined Lauren Sanchez and Gayle King among others for the all-female Blue Origin mission which saw her drop to her knees and kiss the ground on returning to Earth after 11 minutes.

The toe-curling moment marked the last time Bloom was pictured with Perry, who is currently performing three nights in Melbourne, Sydney.

In recent days Bloom, who is in London, has been lavishing praise on his Deep Cover costar Bryce Dallas Howard, hailing her ‘mother number one’ after she taught his daughter to paint on set.

It came days after the pair playfully mocked one another during a panel at Tribeca Film Festival.

‘The rumors of a rough patch are true, but it’s not at the point of no return,’ our source said. ‘They know they must fix things, and they both want to figure it out.

‘They haven’t been able to sit down and work on some of their issues. A breakup isn’t imminent, but they both know that they should focus on their relationship before it does become too late.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Perry and Bloom’s reps for comment.
