Recruiter called out for ‘ridiculous’ advice after revealing why she hired new employee

Recruiter is slammed after revealing she hired someone simply because they sent a lengthy THANK YOU note after an interview – and insisting other potential recruits should do the same

  • An LA recruiter has shared what made a candidate stand out post-interview
  • Instead of the usual ‘thank-you note,’ the hopeful wrote an essay on her ‘value’
  • TikTok users were quick to call out the recruiter’s ‘advice’ as ‘free labor’

A job expert has been called out for dishing out ‘ridiculous’ advice after revealing the reason why she hired a new employee.

Recruiter Julia Haber, from Los Angeles, caused a furor on social media while she was talking about the successful candidate who got her attention by writing a ‘thank you’ note, saying: ‘This email will get you hired.’

In her TikTok video, which has gotten more than 340,000 views, Julia shows off the post-interview message from the ‘recent grad’ that detailed the value she could bring to their team.

The recruiter starts off the video, saying: ‘I just interviewed a recent grad for a full-time role and her thank-you note alone would be a reason to hire her.’

Julia explained the specific step that made the interviewee stand out.

‘She thoughtfully explains how she understands our business, [and] took a theme of our conversation and elaborated on an idea that she could bring to the table,’ she said.

She added the interviewee ‘came up with tangible value for me and my team.’

Julia said that the recent graduate’s move made all the difference for the recruiter.

But not everybody was happy about Julia’s advice.

Many took issue with companies ‘using potential employees for ideas’ before they’re even hired.

Another added: ‘Why am I having to bend over backwards to be considered for a role that I’m clearly interested in. I’m exhausted.’

A third person raised concerns: ‘We are giving companies way too much audacity with this bs (bulls***). Any company that hires one candidate over another bc of this [red flags].’

Others had the same sentiment, with one TikTok user writing: ‘You people expect too much.’

Meanwhile someone else joked: ‘Its chatgpt lol.’

Another viewer wrote: ‘I mean good for her! I sent a thank you email on Monday, but kept it short and simple. It’s already a lot applying and interviewing for jobs.’

However some were rooting for the candidate.

‘AI or not, this is what it takes to stand out! I love the initiative,’ one comment read.

Someone else added: ‘Only hiring people who show this kind of initiative going forward.’

One person wrote: ‘I hope they get the role.’

Julia confirmed the good news, responding: ‘She did!! (sic)’
