Frontman Anthony Kiedis squatted down to pretend to lick the star – which is granted by the Chamber of Commerce only after a $50K sponsorship fee, $250 application fee, and many fan-submitted nominations.

Three-time Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson was affectionately embraced by the RHCP before delivering a short speech at the podium.

The 60-year-old Texan met them in the eighties but couldn’t recall where, and he praised them for ‘saving thousands of trees’ by using non-wood paper for their CDs and revealed they had donated ‘hundreds of thousands of dollars to an orphanage in Peru.’

When the large crowd standing in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard started pushing against the barricade, it startled Woody: ‘Whoa! Okay, moving up, that’s good, you’re closer.’

‘It’s an honor to have their star so close to mine. Wait, I don’t have a star! Who do you gotta talk to?’ Harrelson – rocking an Oscars baseball cap – wisecracked.

‘Anyway, these are the greatest guys making some of the greatest music and they are the greatest live band.’
