Apple has angered a lot of redheads with its newest iOs update.
On October 31, the company released iOS 11.1, which — in addition to some bug fixes — added 70 new emojis.
But while some customers are thrilled to finally get the broccoli or giraffe emojis they’ve been desperately waiting for, it seems more people are upset about the emojis that were not included in the update.
Now out! Apple has released an iOS update with new emojis
Get ’em now! The new emoji set also include animals such as hedgehogs, giraffes, crickets, and dinosaurs
Feeling left out: Some people have expressed disappointment over emojis still missing
Locks on lock: By far, people are most upset about the lack of redheads
Not fair! Redheads are feeling underrepresented and unloved
Maybe next time: Though several ‘missing’ emojis have been mentioned, gingers are getting the most shout-outs
Picked last: This woman thinks Apple should know better
How dare they! This woman called it ‘blatant discrimination’
The update, which is now available for download on iPhones, has many of the new emojis from the Unicode Consortium’s release earlier this year.
There’s are more people and faces, including a breastfeeding woman, an exploding head smiley face, a vomiting face, a shushing face, and a person doing yoga, as well as new flags and articles of clothing like a scarf and baseball cap.
New animals include hedgehogs, giraffes, crickets, and dinosaurs, while additional food includes apple pie, dumplings, broccoli, and a takeout box.
Perhaps most notably, Apple include a bunch of mythical creatures, like vampires, genies, zombies, mermaids and mermen, and fairies.
Yet to some, what wasn’t in the update spoke volumes.
Think of the pilgrims! This Twitter user can’t express his excitement about Thanksgiving
For real, though: Quite a few people want there to be chicken nuggets
Specific: Several animals not available were called out, like the flamingo
Not enough! Though this guy made user of the new cursing emoji, he still wants a bald man one
More Christmas: This woman is really hurting for the lack of candy cane emojis
Cake, but smaller: Cupcakes are also a popular idea among those putting suggestions on Twitter
Neck and neck: Among animals that did make the cut are are a blue sauropod and a giraffe
Veggies are sick! Users can download the iOS now to use a ‘rock on’ gesture and broccoli
’18 vampire emojis but still no redhead emoji really makes u think,’ wrote one Twitter user.
‘We’re getting beards but still no redhead emoji, wrote another, while a third added:’ ‘All these new emojis and there’s still no redhead emoji.
‘There’s f***ing mythical creatures being made into emojis but still no ginger emoji… blatant discrimination,’ said one more.
Certainly, social media users have been most vocal about the lack of redheaded faces, pointing to other ways human emojis have been diversified with skin tone, hair color, facial hair, and even glasses.
‘Another emoji update and still no gingers,’ another wrote sadly. ‘Still no ginger emoji?! Why Apple gotta hate on the redheads?’ asked another.
Not done: Yet some people are unsatisfied and would like to see things like pirates, seals, and otters
Mix tape: If this woman wants to talk about the plot of 13 Reasons Why, she’ll have to keep spelling it out
Never ending! Other suggestions include a waffle, white wine, a bagel, and a mango
Creature feature: The new emoji set does include mermaids and mermen, fairies, vampires and even zombies
Eat up! There is a takeout box, a dumpling, and a coconut in the food section
Adding up: People can express anger with a cursing face or love with an orange heart
‘Why is there still no ginger emoji it’s 2017!!’ chimed in a user who seemed to believe that society should have progressed past this injustice by now.
Of course, it’s not just redheads that people think are missing. Hundreds of other emoji idea have been demanded, including but not limited to a seal, a pirate, an otter, a skateboard, a clarinet, a parrot, a frisbee, a calzone, a llama, a sloth, a waffle, white wine, a bagel, and a flamingo.
‘They have mini discs but no cassette tape emoji,’ wrote one user, angrily. ‘I was looking for a turkey emoji but no, straight to Christmas,’ said an American getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving.
‘It’s 7am on November 1st and I’m wide awake wondering why there’s no candy cane emoji,’ wrote one Christmas fan.
Extra: A number of gender-neutral characters of various ages and skin tones are also being added. They were first announced on World Emoji Day
Ready to use: A face with monocle and person in steamy room are among the new additions
Mystical: There are a witch and wizard as well as male and female fairies
Some requests seem more popular than others, like customers who want to see cupcakes, softball players, and chicken nuggets in their emoji keyboards.
A few expressed a desire for an emoji that conveys hugging, while someone who seems to be looking for a way to sum up a bad attitude hopes for a salt shaker.
New emojis are agreed upon at the Unicode Consortium, and more are sure to be added in the future.
For this set, users will need iOS 11.1 to both send and receive the new characters. Without it, they won’t find them in the keyboard and will only receive generic blocks and broken up emoji in place of the new characters.
Shop through emojis: New clothing includes gloves and a baseball cap
Team work: Both the sender and recipient need to download the new iOS to see the sled and trenchcoat
Odd: A cricket and curling stone have also popped up
