Redheads are finally set to get their own emoji.
Unicode, the organisation that controls them, has revealed four new additions to the emoji set to appear next year.
There are male and female redheads, along with male and female curly hair faces, swans and the infinity symbol.
The new draft for 2018 emoji include both redhead and curly haired emoji, and if approved could come to phones around the middle of next year
The draft list was approved at the Unicode Technical Committee (UTC) meeting at Apple last week.
‘Don’t worry redheads: your feedback has been heard!’ said Jeremy Burge, the Editor in Chief of Emojipedia, who attended the meeting.
‘The most common feedback to Emojipedia since Apple released iOS 11.1 has been ‘but what about the red heads,’ he said, adding
Both male and female bald heads will be available alongside the male and female redheads
Cupcakes will also finally appear, along wiht an option for grey hair
‘Requests for curly haired emojis have also been popular.’
Burge confirmed the emoji were now on the approved list.
Superheroes have also made the cut for 2018, along with cupcakes and bagels
Although the hair characters aren’t yet final, Unicode did go on to specify that there would be a man and woman available to have any of the new hair types if this draft list is approved in a similar state next year.
New emojis approved in early-mid 2018 would arrive on most phones in the second half of 2018.
Feeling left out: Some people have expressed disappointment over emojis still missing
Locks on lock: By far, people are most upset about the lack of redheads
It comes after Apple angered a lot of redheads with its newest iOS update.
On October 31, the company released iOS 11.1, which — in addition to some bug fixes — added 70 new emojis.
But while some customers are thrilled to finally get the broccoli or giraffe emojis they’ve been desperately waiting for, it seems more people are upset about the emojis that were not included in the update.
Not fair! Redheads are feeling underrepresented and unloved
Maybe next time: Though several ‘missing’ emojis have been mentioned, gingers are getting the most shout-outs
’18 vampire emojis but still no redhead emoji really makes u think,’ wrote one Twitter user.
‘We’re getting beards but still no redhead emoji, wrote another, while a third added:’ ‘All these new emojis and there’s still no redhead emoji.
Picked last: This woman thinks Apple should know better
How dare they! This woman called it ‘blatant discrimination’
The Apple update, which is now available for download on iPhones, has many of the new emojis from the Unicode Consortium’s release earlier this year.
There’s are more people and faces, including a breastfeeding woman, an exploding head smiley face, a vomiting face, a shushing face, and a person doing yoga, as well as new flags and articles of clothing like a scarf and baseball cap.
Think of the pilgrims! This Twitter user can’t express his excitement about Thanksgiving
For real, though: Quite a few people want there to be chicken nuggets
New animals include hedgehogs, giraffes, crickets, and dinosaurs, while additional food includes apple pie, dumplings, broccoli, and a takeout box.
‘There’s f***ing mythical creatures being made into emojis but still no ginger emoji… blatant discrimination,’ said one more.
‘Why is there still no ginger emoji it’s 2017!!’ chimed in a user who seemed to believe that society should have progressed past this injustice by now.
Some requests seem more popular than others, like customers who want to see cupcakes, softball players, and chicken nuggets in their emoji keyboards.
A few expressed a desire for an emoji that conveys hugging, while someone who seems to be looking for a way to sum up a bad attitude hopes for a salt shaker.
New emojis are agreed upon at the Unicode Consortium, and more are sure to be added in the future.
For this set, users will need iOS 11.1 to both send and receive the new characters. Without it, they won’t find them in the keyboard and will only receive generic blocks and broken up emoji in place of the new characters.
