Reese Witherspoon’s daughter Ava Phillippe waves rainbow flag as she kicks off Pride Month – two years after opening up about her sexuality

Ava Phillippe kicked off Pride Month with a celebratory message.

The 24-year-old, who is the daughter of Reese Witherspoon, joyfully posed with a rainbow flag in an Instagram post she shared Saturday.

‘Once upon a time, some gal on the internet said “gender is whatever” in reference to her own sexuality. Many took her words out of context, but she knew what she meant. Anyways, this is her posting for the first day of pride month 2024,’ she captioned the post.

In the photo, Ava donned a crop top and cargo pants as she stood barefoot upon the lush greenery.

She smiled as she watched the flag wave about through her edgy sunglasses.

It comes over two years after Ava spoke out on her sexuality and declared gender ‘is whatever.’

In January 2022, a fan asked, ‘Do you like boys or girls,’ prompting Ava to answer: ‘I’m attracted to… people! (Gender is whatever).’

Two days later she slammed those sending ‘bigoted’ and ‘hateful’ comments.

‘QUICK REMINDER: I can & will block profiles commenting bigoted/hateful messages under my posts,’ wrote Ava in a post shared to her Instagram Story.

Ava is the oldest of two children shared by exes Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe. They also share 20-year-old son Deacon.

Reese is also mom to son Tennessee, 11, with her ex husband Jim Toth.

Ava attended UC Berkeley and has previously shared her relationship with Owen Mahoney, who she met at the college. However, the current status of their relationship remains unknown.

Reese, 48, admitted in a candid interview in 2021 that she ‘didn’t understand what homosexuality was’ until she moved to Los Angeles because she wasn’t taught about it growing up.

The actress made the revelation during a virtual interview with Watchmen star Regina King – with whom she co-starred in Legally Blonde 2 in 2003 – as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series.

Mother-of-three Reese was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1976 and raised in Nashville, Tennessee before moving to LA in the early stages of her career.

Speaking from her home in California about her TV show Little Fires Everywhere, based on Celeste Ng’s hit 2017 novel, Reese told Regina: ‘No one spoke to me about sexuality when I was a teenager.

‘I didn’t understand what homosexuality was. My grandparents didn’t explain it, my parents didn’t explain it. I had to learn from somebody I met on an audition in Los Angeles.’

She referenced the moment her Little Fires Everywhere character Elena – matriarch of the seemingly-perfect Richardson family – discusses homosexuality in the show, explaining that she incorporated snippets of a conversation she once had about the topic into the script.
