The release date for Cate Blanchett and Sacha Baron Cohen’s new psychological thriller series has been confirmed.

The Australian actress, 55, will star alongside the English comedian, 52, in a tense new series called Disclaimer, based on the 2015 novel by Renee Knight.

Cate and Borat star Sacha will be joined on screen by the likes of Oscar winner Kevin Kline, Maleficent star Lesley Manville and Aussie Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Making up the cast are also Enola Holmes star Louis Partridge, South Korean actress HoYeon Jung as well as Liv Hill, Gemma Jones, and Anya Marco Harris.

The release date for the hotly-anticipated series has been confirmed, as it is due to hit screens via Apple TV+ on October 11, 2024.

Disclaimer will tell the tale of documentary filmmaker Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate) who receives a mysterious novel titled The Perfect Stranger on her nightstand.

Catherine is described as ‘a successful and respected television documentary journalist’ who has built a career out of revealing the transgressions of beloved institutions, before her whole life is upturned by the delivery.

At first intrigued by the novel, Catherine quickly discovers it is not fiction, but rather a recreation of the day Catherine ‘became hostage to a dark secret, a secret that only one other person knew – and that person is dead’, according to the synopsis.

The only other person who knew this secret – or so she thought – is dead, as she finds herself confronting the truth about that awful and fateful day.

Forced into a ‘living nightmare’, Catherine’s only hope is to confront what happened on that fateful day, even if ‘the truth might destroy her’.

The dramatic story is being brought to screen by director Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men).

It began production in June 2022 and filming across London, Mexico, and Sydney, before wrapping in February last year.

The late Steve Golin is listed as executive producer, with longtime Cuaron collaborator Emmanuel Lubezki set to serve as director of photography alongside Bruno Delbonnel.

Speaking with Vanity Fair in July, Cate revealed that viewers could expect ‘much unflattering human behavior’ in the series.

‘Maybe we add our voices to the cacophony for fear of being judged ourselves,’ she told the publication.

‘We are all the heroes of our own narratives, right? To that end, there is much unflattering human behavior depicted in the series.

Cate added that she was fascinated with the idea of exploring how a person changes when dealing with repressed trauma.

‘What I became fascinated by was how a person can be altered in imperceptible ways when traumatic events are buries and remain unprocessed,’ she said.

‘People carrying around concealed trauma can have no idea how heavy this burden is, how deep their rage and shame.’
