Renault have told Red Bull that they want to terminate their contract with them from the end of next season, throwing the driver market into flux. 

Sportsmail has learned that the French manufacturers have concluded that their fractious relationship with the Red Bull team has run its course, and will no longer supply them with engines from 2019.

The news has not been made public yet, but can be revealed here ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.

It casts doubt on the future direction of Red Bull’s two star drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.

It is understood that Renault’s new relationship with McLaren will be confirmed on Friday after the first practice session, as will Honda’s affiliation with Toro Rosso.

However, an announcement on Fernando Alonso’s future at McLaren is likely to be delayed beyond the weekend, with the final dotting of i’s still to be concluded. 

McLaren had pencilled in an announcement that he would be staying for Saturday after qualifying, but that is no longer the case.

Alonso will face the press on Thursday and is likely to stonewall over his plans.
