A renter has been left baffled by an ‘unusual’ $20 gadget on the wall of her new home – and taken to the internet for help solving the mystery.

Home makers were quick to reveal the long, white object was in fact a broom and mop holder.

The instrument, which was screwed on to the wall, had four ports, each with a round bulb-shaped fixture on the side.

‘It holds your broom. Slot the handle into each gap,’ one woman said.

‘You push them in the slot and it locks them in,’ said one woman. 

Others agreed the holder isn’t just for brooms.

‘It can hold your mops too,’ one woman offered.

‘Ours is outside and used for brooms and hubby’s pool cues,’ one woman said.

And others have had their mind on the objects for some time. 

‘This reminds me I need to buy one of these today,’ one woman remembered. 

‘My mop handle is too thick for mine,’ one woman complained.

The gadgets sell for around $20 at storage stores across Australia.
