Republican Cory Mills rescues 13 MORE Americans trapped in Haiti including 2-month-old baby and toddler: Florida congressman slams ‘failed leadership’ by the Biden administration for not taking action sooner

Army veteran and Republican Rep. Cory Mills helped 13 more Americans escape war-torn Haiti over the weekend.

The Florida congressman revealed he had helped volunteers for a children’s ministry evacuate. Among the 13 Americans was a two-month-old baby and a three-year-old girl.

‘Like many they made all attempts to work through the government but with no success,’ Mills said in a statement.

The trip followed a mission last week led by Mills that helped rescue 10 Americans.

He’s led successful rescue missions in Israel and Afghanistan in the past.

‘Americans are in danger,’ said Mills. ‘[Biden’s] pattern of abandonment and failed leadership should be noted come November.’

Meanwhile dozens of U.S. citizens were evacuated on a flight chartered by the State Department over the weekend as the nation remains wracked by gang violence.

There were 166 seats available on the first flight out of the chaos-ridden nation but just 47 U.S. citizens took up the offer of returning on the government-chartered flight which arrived at Miami International Airport.

The U.S. embassy in Haiti has warned Americans to get out of the country ‘as soon as possible.’

The main airport in Haiti in Port-au-Prince remains shuttered due to gang attacks, and the State Department is offering only limited charter flights from the less chaotic northern city of Cap-Haïtien.

U.S. officials say they cannot provide ground transportation to the city and U.S. citizens should make their way to the charter flights ‘only if you think you can reach Cap-Haïtien airport safely.’

‘We encourage U.S. citizens still in Haiti who seek to depart to contact the Department of State using the crisis intake form on our website if they have not already done so,’ the agency said.

People on the U.S. government-coordinated flights are required to sign a promissory bill agreeing to reimburse the government.

Meanwhile the United Nations  children’s agency chief said the situation in Haiti is the ‘worst in decades’ as millions face famine amid the swell of looting and violence.

Seven bodies were reportedly found in Petion Ville in the Ouest Department of Haiti on Monday after an overnight shooting.

UNICEF said one of its containers holding ‘essential items for maternal, neonatal, and child survival, including resuscitators and related equipment’ was looted in the capital of Port-au-Prince’s main port on Saturday.

The unrest has further cut some of the country’s most vulnerable from basic supplies, coming ‘at a critical moment when children need them the most,’ the agency said.

That same day, the Guatemala’s Foreign Ministry said the offices of its honorary consul in Haiti was ransacked, but didn’t give any details of damage or thefts, nor did it say who was responsible.

‘It’s like a scene out of Mad Max. Honestly, that’s what it seems like.

‘Gangs, vigilantes responding to the gangs,’ UNICEF executive director Catherine Russell told CBS News.

‘Many, many people there are suffering from serious hunger and malnutrition and we’re not able to get enough aid to them.’

Gangs have raged through Haiti in recent weeks, attacking key institutions and shutting down the main international airport. The gangs, led by a man nicknamed ‘Barbeque’ have risen to power without clear leadership in the country and the prime minister’s resignation.

Approximately 1.4 million Haitians are on the verge of famine, and more than 4 million require food aid, sometimes eating only once a day or nothing at all, aid groups said.

‘Haiti is facing a protractive and mass hunger,’ Jean-Martin Bauer, Haiti director for the United Nations’ World Food Program, told The Associated Press.

‘We have supplies for weeks. I’m saying weeks, not months, that has me terrified.’

The country’s top gang leader Jimmy ‘Barbeque’ Cherizier has threatened the families of political leaders who would support a planned transition council replacing outgoing PM Aruel Henry.

Haiti Libre reported the Haitian National Police raided Barbeque’s territory on Friday as part of a strategy to unblock roads, seize firearms and facilitate the free movement of citizens.

More anti-terrorism U.S. Marines have been dispatched to Haiti to beef up security at the American embassy 24 hours after the country’s prime minister announced his resignation amid mounting chaos.

The elite Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (F.A.S.T) was sent in as bedlam continued and after top gang leader Jimmy ‘Barbecue’ Cherizier called for a ‘bloody revolution’.

Ariel Henry stepped down as prime minister on Tuesday as the Caribbean nation was pushed to the brink of civil war and bodies were left strewn in the streets.

On Wednesday, the European Union said it is sending humanitarian aid worth 20 million euros ($21.8 million) to Haiti.

‘An unprecedented level of gang violence is dramatically increasing humanitarian needs across the country,’ European Commission spokesman Balazs Ujvari said.

‘The funding will help humanitarian partners to address the most urgent needs of the population.’

Henry agreed to step down in a bid to staunch spiraling violence that has left public services shattered and many people displaced.

Gangs who rule much of the capital Port-au-Prince had demanded Henry’s departure after they launched a series of attacks on police stations, prisons and other infrastructure.

In a blow to international efforts to stabilize the country, Kenya on Tuesday said it was pausing plans to spearhead a multinational police mission backed by the United Nations.

Heavily-armed gangs have been in firefights with cops and soldiers, tried to seize the airport and targeted government sites.

The U.S. Southern Command said F.A.S.T. was deployed to the embassy in the nation’s capital, Port-au-Prince.

The embassy is still open, but most staff have been airlifted out and operations are limited.

‘U.S. Southern Command is prepared with a wide range of contingency plans to ensure the safety and security of U.S. Citizens in Haiti,’ U.S. Southern Command said.

A Republican congressman has helped rescue Americans stranded during the violence and slammed the Biden administration for a ‘pattern of abandonment’ of U.S. citizens.

Last week Mills evacuated 10 U.S. citizens who were working at the Have Faith Orphanage at Port-au-Prince.

‘This mission reiterates a disturbing reality under President Biden’s leadership: American lives are continually jeopardized,’ Mills said. ‘I have led missions to rescue Americans multiple times when Joe Biden has deserted them.

‘There’s a clear pattern of abandonment,’ Mills said, citing his rescue missions in Afghanistan during the chaotic 2021 withdrawal.

He also safely evacuated Americans from Israel in late 2023.

‘Yet again, this group was left behind by Biden and his State Department after requesting their help in-country

Gang leader ‘Barbecue’, a former police officer, has claimed responsibility for the surge in violence.

Gangs are believed to be in control of around 80 percent of the capital.

More than 200 gangs are estimated to operate around Haiti, mostly in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

More than 20 of them are based in the capital and rally around two main coalitions: G9 Family and Allies led by ‘Barbecue’; and G-Pep, led by Gabriel Jean-Pierre, who is allied with Johnson André, leader of the 5 Seconds gang and known as ‘Izo.’

Henry had been unable to enter Haiti because the violence forced the closure of its airports.

He arrived a week ago in Puerto Rico, where he announced his resignation in a recorded statement.
