Reuters selects its best image of 2019 from 161 nations its photographers have visited this year

From Kim Kardashian at a technology event in Armenia to revellers showing off their fun sides during the annual La Tomatina tomato food fight festival in Spain, Reuters photographers have been on the scene to record the biggest news stories this year.  

And to mark the end of the decade the news agency has put together a stunning collection of pictures from around the world.

Choosing one image from 161 country, the results reveal what an eventful year 2019 has been from extreme weather events such as Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas to colourful political protests in Chile during October. 

In Europe, Germany marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall by reflecting on a giant photograph of the city showing where the divide used to be and in France paratroopers jumped to mark 75 years since D-Day.

Sport also made a prominent appearance with Andorra’s entry showing their Euro 2020 qualifier set in front of a stormy sky, to a teenager from Cameroon being one of the first girls trained by professional coaches.

While Boris Johnson’s election campaign in Britain and Greta Thunberg participating in a Global Strike For Future protest also made an appearance in the impressive round up.
