Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim reportedly travelled to Monaco less than 48 hours after their Europa League final defeat. 

United have endured a dismal season, losing 18 of their 38 Premier League games to finish in 15th place. 

They had to chance to rescue the campaign in Bilbao on Wednesday, but the Red Devils put in a poor performance to lose 1-0 to Spurs.

According to The Athletic, Amorim made an unusual trip to Monaco on Friday to attend the club’s monthly executive committee meeting.

Upon returning to Manchester, the Portuguese manager informed the squad that he would be staying.

It was during this same day that Amorim informed Alejandro Garnacho he is free to leave the club this summer.

The Argentine was left of the squad as United rounded off the 2024-25 season with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa, finishing an historically bad Premier League campaign in 15th place. 

‘Garnacho is a Manchester United player that is not in the squad today and I have no news that will change today,’ Amorim said coyly after Saturday’s victory.

Pressed on if today was Garnacho’s last game for the club, Amorim said bluntly: ‘Garnacho is one more player of Manchester United. I don’t know what is going to happen in the future.’

Amorim also promised United fans that ‘the good days are coming’. 

‘I want to apologise for this season,’ he told supporters in an on-pitch address.

‘I know you are really disappointed with me and with the team.

‘The second thing I want to say is thank you. We are very grateful for your support during the season, which I know was really bad.

‘It was really hard in many games, but now, for me, we have to make a choice – stay stuck in the past – because this season is in the past, it’s over.

The Portuguese promised Manchester United fans that ‘the good days are coming’.

‘We fight each other or we stick together and move forward. Six months ago, in my first three games in charge, with two victories and one draw, I said to you the storm is coming,

‘Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you the good days are coming.

‘If there is one club in the world that can overcome any situation, any disaster it is our club, Manchester United.’
