Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United reign is picking up momentum and now the Portuguese is reportedly keen to tie down one of the stars which have helped him get off to a strong start at Old Trafford.

After drawing his first match as boss 1-1 at Ipswich, Amorim has enjoyed two successive victories – a 3-2 Europa League triumph over Bodo Glimt and Sunday’s impressive 4-0 demolition of Everton.

On the field, Amorim will look to extend his unbeaten run when his side take on the daunting task of a trip to Arsenal on Wednesday.

But the former Sporting manager also has challenges off the field to content with – and that includes keeping his best young players at the club.

And it is the future of one particular star which will be giving Amorim cause for concern at the moment.

Amorim will reportedly hold talks with Amad Diallo in a bid to convince the Man United winger to commit his future to the club.

Amad Diallo has been a key performer under Amorim, featuring in each of his three matches

The 22-year-old has featured in all three of Amorim’s matches since his appointment as Man United manager last month and appears well suited to the Portuguese boss’ much-loved 3-4-3 formation.

Man United signed Amad from Atalanta for £37million in January 2021 and that deal expires in June 2025.

There is an option to extend the deal for another season but that needs to be confirmed before January and The Telegraph are reporting that Man United are keen to secure the Ivory Coast international as soon as possible.

If Man United do not trigger the extension – or agree new terms –  Amad will be free to talk to other clubs and join as a free agent for in January 2026.

Amad was at the forefront of Sunday’s win over Everton. The winger’s pressing led to two of Man United’s goals in the 4-0 victory and his manager was quick to single out his contribution after the match.

‘He was really good again,” said Amorim. ‘He’s in a great moment, but that moment starts with the group. So, I just take advantage of Ruud’s [van Nistelrooy] work with Amad.

‘Amad was really good defensively and really good attacking and he has to continue to play like that.

‘You could feel at the end of the game that he was really, really tired, so we also have to manage that as he increases the physical ability.’
