Revellers collapse as they get into the Christmas spirits

Festive revellers stumbled out of bars and pubs dressed as Father Christmas and his elves yesterday as Britons made the most of the chance to get into the seasonal spirits before the big day itself.

It was far from a silent night for thousands of partygoers, who pulled on their Christmas jumpers, found the silliest costumes they could and headed out for a spot of festive merrymaking.

After a long night of dancing to festive hits, many looked slightly worse for wear as they walked arm-in-arm with friends or tucked into a late night snack on their way home.

Smiling party-goers were spotted enjoying themselves in Newcastle, Liverpool and Swansea, with many happy to pose for pictures as they painted the town a Christmas red.

Others were happy to play-fight, tuck into a takeaway, or even celebrate the holiday season with a little peck or hug with a friend.
