Rey Maualuga arrested and charged with assault

Football linebacker Rey Maualuga, 30, was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge at a Miami nightclub, E11EVEN, for refusing to pay his tab

Miami Dolphins linebacker Rey Maualuga has been arrested and charged with battery after he allegedly refused to pay his $40 nightclub bar tab.

The 30-year-old has also been waived by his team after the incident at E11ven nightclub, and will be replaced by De’Veon Smith from the practice squad.

He  was booked into the Turner Guildford Knight Correction Center early Saturday morning.

Maualuga was allegedly confronted by an employee at the club around 8:20am with regards to his unsettled check.

His refusal pay erupted into an argument between the pair.

The linebacker then allegedly grabbed the member of staff by the throat and shoved him.

Maualuga was then forced to leave by security, which is when the cops detained him and arrested him.

His bond has been set at $1,500, however this isn’t the first time Maualuga has run into trouble with the law.

An incident occurred in 2010 when he was arrested for DUI in Kentucky and was eventually charged with drunken driving and careless driving. reported TMZ.

He allegedly hit a parking meter and two parked cars while driving a 2003 Pontiac.

In addition to the NFL waiving Maualuga they also announced days ago they are investigating Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston for allegedly groping an Uber drive in March 2016, BuzzFeed first reported.

The Dolphins lost 20-30 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Hard Rock Stadium Sunday, making it their fourth straight loss.

Maualuga had 23 tackles for the Dolphins this season in six games, four of them being starts.

He was signed as a free agent in August after rookie linebacker and projected Dolphins starter Raekwon McMillan was lost for the season with a knee injury.

He needed several weeks to get in shape and recover from a hamstring injury, and was coming off an effort Monday night where he had a season-high seven tackles in a loss to Carolina.
