Rhino baby shows his delight by jumping around in a shower

This is the adorable moment a baby rhino can’t contain his excitement as he is given a shower for the first time.

The calf, who lives at Toronto Zoo with his mum, was first exposed to water on January 8 – initially startled and too surprised to enjoy himself.

However, six days later on January 14, he has clearly gotten over his trepidation and he can be seen frolicking in the stream in excitement.

The rhino was born on Thursday, January 4, at 11.04 am.

In the video, shared by the Toronto Zoo on Facebook, the adorable rhino can be dancing around in the shower of water.

He runs up and down, before dropping to the floor in his excitement.

While on the floor, the calf can be seen rolling on his back and belly as he tries to enjoy the water as much as he can.

Toronto Zoo regularly update a diary on the calf and his mother, named Ashakrian.

The series is called the Baby Rhino Diaries and describes the baby rhino as a greater one-horned rhino calf.

The post about the video, titled Day 11, Jan 14th said: ‘The calf was exposed to water for the first time on January 8th, but being only four days old, he was not too sure of it and was startled when splashed by mom, who was happily enjoying her shower.

‘Today is the first time we see him frolicking, jumping, rolling on his side and tummy, and thoroughly enjoying himself under the water spray.’

The baby rhino is a popular animal, with more than five thousand likes on the video of him showering.

The diary for Day 12 read: ‘Enrichment plays a big part in the lives of all of the animals at the Zoo, and rhinos are no exception. One of Ashakiran’s favourite enrichment is big, heavy chains that are hung in the maternity area from the ceiling.

‘Ashakrian is very tactile (most rhinos are) and she loves scratches, so she really enjoys walking through the chain curtain Keepers have hung and the sensation of the chains rubbing her back. Today, keepers noticed that the calf was trying to reach up to touch them for himself! Rhino see, rhino do.’

The popular rhino calf, who seems to be unnamed still, is clearly much-loved by fans of the zoo.

They eagerly follow his progress with records describing how the animal spent day 13, 14, 15 and 16.

The video of him frolicking in the shower has more than 171,000 views.
