Rhodes parasailing accident: Two teenagers killed, third in hospital

British teen cousins are killed in parasailing accident in Rhodes: Boy, 13, and girl, 15, fall 400ft onto rocks when parachute rope snaps – as boy’s brother fights for life in hospital

Two British teens have died and a third is fighting for their life after a rope holding the parasailing parachute they were flying snapped in high winds.

The two cousins, 13 and 15, were holidaying in Rhodes, Greece with one of their 15-year-old brothers when the incident occurred causing them to fall from an ‘extreme’ height.

‘A 13-year-old girl and a young man of 15 were found dead on the rocks near the city of Lindos in Rhodes,’ the Greek coastguard announced. 

The boy’s brother suffered multiple injuries and is in a coma on a critical care ward, while the captain of boat they were sailing behind has been arrested.

The coastguard and firefighters found another 15-year-old girl,the siblings’ cousin, with serious injuries in the same area and took him to a hospital in Rhodes.  

The three adolescents were hanging onto a parachute pulled by a boat but the rope broke and the wind carried them into the rocks, Greek media reported.   

The two teenagers were killed when they were swept away by waves, fell on a rocky spot at Cape Gina.

One of the two brothers, aged 13, and his cousin, a 15-year old girl, were declared dead at the State Hospital of Rhodes. 

The other brother, aged 15, was transported to the hospital, placed into a medically-induced coma and treated in the hospital’s critical care unit, for multiple injuries.

A Coast Guard boat and a fire brigade rushed to the scene. 

Τhe siblings and their cousin had arrived to the island  with their family a few days ago and were staying in Pefki resort. 

 Authorities have opened a probe into the causes of the accident. 

Eyewitness accounts suggest the rope snapped in high winds, leading the three teenagers to fall onto rocks from an altitude of about 400 ft. 

The boat’s captain and co-captain are held in custody by the Coast Guard in Rhodes pending their prosecution.
