Richard Keys aims ANOTHER dig at Man United’s Wout Weghorst

‘You can’t count Weghorst!’: Richard Keys aims ANOTHER dig at Man United’s Dutch striker as he insists the Red Devils played with 10 men against Fulham, and claims the Cottagers would have won at Old Trafford if Aleksandar Mitrovic hadn’t ‘lost control’

  • Man United came from behind to beat Fulham 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday
  • The game turned when Fulham had two players sent off in a matter of seconds
  • Keys has hit out at Weghorst, claiming United played with 10 men all game

Richard Keys has hit out at Wout Weghorst yet again by claiming the forward may as well have not been on the pitch in Manchester United’s 3-1 FA Cup win against Fulham on Sunday.

Keys labelled Weghorst United’s ‘worst ever player’ earlier this month following the team’s humiliating 7-0 defeat at Liverpool, but Erik ten Hag has continued to stand by the Dutch striker.

Weghorst started against Fulham, but United struggled for long periods at Old Trafford and deservedly went behind when Aleksandar Mitrovic scored early in the second half for the visitors.

However, the game turned on one incident, with Willian sent off and conceding a penalty for handling Jadon Sancho’s shot on the goal-line. Following the game-changing decision, Mitrovic was given his marching orders for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh, while Fulham boss Marco Silva was also shown a red card.

Keys believes Mitrovic getting sent off was the killer blow for Fulham, insisting Willian’s red card would have only evened up the numbers as Weghorst was offering nothing.

‘Having berated some – let’s give Chris Kavanagh credit for his handling of a shambles all of Fulham’s making at Old Trafford,’ Keys wrote on his blog.

‘What were they thinking? Never has a team been more guilty of tossing away a match. Ninety seconds of madness cost them.

‘The way United were playing I’d have fancied Fulham to beat them with 10 anyway. Sending Willian off only evened things up. United only had 10 on. You can’t count Weghorst.

‘When he lost control Mitrovic cost Fulham any chance of winning the game.’

Mitrovic is now facing a lengthy suspension for his actions, with Sportsmail’s Chris Sutton believing he deserves at least a 10-game ban.

Keys agrees that Mitrovic deserves to be punished heavily, but also feels Bruno Fernandes, who scored twice in United’s come-from-behind win at the weekend, should have been banned himself for pushing a linesman at Anfield at the start of March.

‘Mitrovic should be banned for some time for his ridiculous attack on the ref. What was going through his mind?’ Keys asked.

‘It was an irony that Fernandes got a couple because he should be serving a ban.

‘I still don’t know how he escaped an FA charge after he man-handled the assistant at Anfield. The FA were weak and should’ve charged him.’
