Richard Simmons shares his plans for ‘interactive’ Broadway show about his life: ‘I am so excited!’

Richard Simmons is thinking of taking his life story to Broadway.

The reclusive fitness legend, 75, revealed his plans to do an ‘interactive’ musical featuring a space for audience members to exercise along to the music.

‘I am so excited! I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is an attorney and manages famous artists in music,’ Simmons – who recently shared a rare audio message with fans – posted to Facebook last week. ‘She ran an idea by me…..she wants to do an interactive Broadway show about my life.

‘The seats on the ground floor will be removed so people can work out to some of the musical numbers in the show. What do you think?’

Speaking with Page Six about his Broadway ambitions, he said: ‘I am so excited about the prospect of my own Broadway show. I have so many ideas and I’m writing them all down … Broadway is in my blood!’

Fans flooded his comments section expressing their enthusiasm for the possible project.

‘I love it and it would be my dream come true to be a makeup artist for the show,’ one follower posted.

‘Omg!! Richard that is such a wonderful idea!! We’ll definitely be there to watch that!! I can’t wait!! Love and miss you bunches Richard!’ another wrote.

‘Let me know when auditions are. I can sweat to the oldies and sing my face off,’ another commented.

‘What a wonderful idea! I love broadway and would go in a heartbeat!’ one fan said.

It comes after the release of another project based on Simmons – the short film The Court Jester starring Pauly Shore as the fitness icon.

The 10-minute long film is billed as: ‘David, an under appreciated segment producer, has a life altering run in with the enigmatic fitness guru, Richard Simmons, backstage of a high profile talk show.’

It received a standing ovation following a sold-out screening earlier this year.

Shore will also be starring in another biopic about Simmons, which is in development at The Wolper Organization, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers, according to Variety.

But Simmons has said he never gave his ‘permission’ for the biopic.

‘You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist,’ he posted to Facebook back in January. ‘I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support.’

The Wolper Organization responded to Simmons in a statement stating: ‘While we would love to have him involved, we respect his desire to privacy and plan to produce a movie that honors him, celebrates him, and tells a dramatic story.

‘We know he is deeply private and we would never want to invade that; however, he is an amazing person that changed millions of peoples’ lives, and the effect he has had on the world needs to be recognized.’
