  • Richmond Tigers captain begins AFL season Thursday as reigning champions

Richmond Tigers star Dustin Martin has opened up about his passion for modelling.

The AFL star, known for his grit on the field, has recently been delving into the fashion world – stepping in front of the lens for a number of campaigns.

The double AFL premiership winner has most recently paired with Melbourne-based luxury watch brand Kennedy.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Martin said he has developed a penchant for the finer things.

‘I really like the style of the watches. I think they go with my own style,’ Martin said.

‘I treated myself to a luxury watch after the 2017 season. I think it’s important to reward yourself and celebrate after a lot of hard work.

‘I work with Kennedy because they are constantly striving to achieve the best. I relate to that.’

The 28-year-old appears to be approaching modelling with the same passion he is known for on the footy field.

Though as he signs with more brands he will need to ensure his fiery enthusiasm does not go unchecked – in 2019 he was fined by the AFL for making obscene gestures at another player.

Martin has previously worked on campaigns for Australian underwear brand Bonds and European athletic brand Puma.

His personal brand skyrocketed after a spectacular 2017 AFL season in which he not only won the premiership with the Tigers but nearly clean-sweeped every major award.

He was awarded the Brownlow Medal, the Norm Smith medal, best final’s player, Richmond’s best and fairest, the AFLPA MVP, and an All-Australian selection.

He also may be learning something from tennis legend Serena Williams after the two became friends through a mutual friend while holidaying in the Maldives last year.

The Tiger’s AFL season begins on Thursday as the reigning champions.
