The young girlfriend of an AFL superstar-in-the-making has publicly denied a series of ‘putrid’ allegations which surfaced online regarding the pair’s relationship in recent days.

Tenisha Crook, the partner of 20-year-old Richmond Tigers midfielder Jack Higgins, didn’t address the nature of the rumours, but said she was horrified that people could make such claims.

In particular, she said both she and her partner had received dozens of threats and abusive messages from men.

She said they had been stalked and intimidated in recent days.

Higgins’ Instagram account has been flooded with messages of support, but most of his fans have criticised Crook.

‘Absolutely disgusting that it has gotten to the point where I have needed to respond to this slander and defamation,’ she wrote on her Instagram story.

‘I am horrified at the amount of (all male) putrid messages received in mine and Jack’s Facebook and Instagram dms.

Crook said she understands her boyfriend’s career means she is often thrust into the spotlight, but hoped fans would be more accommodating to their need for privacy.

‘Football fans need to learn to respect the privacy of players and their families/wives and girlfriends (especially in the off-season).

‘Yes, there is a spotlight put on players and their partners. However, there is absolutely no right to abuse, stalk us and make up rumoured stories.’

She went on to say both she and Higgins remain happy in their relationship.

The allegations come after a tough 2019 for Higgins, who was sidelined with a brain bleed back in July.

Tigers general manager of football Neil Balme is hoping the 20-year-old will be back on the field for the 2020 season, but admitted ‘nobody can tell’ what recovery times are for brain injuries.

Higgins underwent surgery shortly after the diagnosis and struggled with the immediate recovery.

‘It is obviously very challenging, but again, the positives out of it are that once he gets through it, he will be as good as new,’ Balme said at the time.
