Ricki-Lee Coulter will sing at NRL Grand Final

The Australian Idol veteran released her comeback single, Not Too Late, last month.

And now Ricki-Lee Coulter is set to return to the stage for a gig that’s been on her bucket list since she was a child.

The singer, 31, will perform at the NRL grand final in Sydney next Sunday and she told The Daily Telegraph this week that she’s ‘looking forward’ to the gig.

What a comeback! Former Australian Idol star Ricki-Lee Coulter is ‘really looking forward to’ singing national anthem at NRL grand final… after releasing first single in three years

Ricki-Lee hasn’t toured since 2014, as she relocated to Los Angeles to work on writing new material.

‘To be in front of 80,000 people letting it rip, singing my heart out, I think it’ll be a very emotional moment for me,’ she said.

She added: ‘There really is no greater feeling than the atmosphere and electricity in the air when you perform live. I really have missed that so I’m really looking forward to this.’

Ricki-Lee also claimed it’s always been a goal of hers to perform the national anthem at a grand final sports event.

‘I remember as a kid watching the grand finals and seeing people singing the anthem and dreaming to be there one day, so for it to actually be coming true is so exciting.’

The star will be joined on stage by Grammy award-winning artist Macklemore, who will headline the grand final pre-game show.

Meanwhile, Ricki-Lee previously told Yahoo Be why she hadn’t released any new music in the past three years.

The star claimed her husband Richard Harrison as her biggest critic and there were times when she’d come home thinking she had a winner but he would bluntly ask, ‘what are you doing?’

Not good enough! On Friday, Ricki-Lee Coulter revealed her husband Richard Harrison was the reason she hadn't released any new music recently, calling him her biggest critic.

‘Sometimes I would come home with these empty meaningless songs and he would be like, “what are you doing? What does that even mean? What is that about? It’s not cutting it”,’ she shared.

‘And it was so hard sometimes because you invest all this time and you come back and you’re like “wooo I love this song”, and he’s like “na” and there’s just like a cross through it and it’s tough.’

‘So once I finally came home with Not To Late, he was like “this is everything I’ve been telling you to do”. And it was awesome,’ she continued.

Earlier in the month, Ricki-Lee opened up about how hard it was to try and make it in Los Angles.

Appearing on The Project, the stunner who left Australia over two years ago with a one-way ticket said she felt like a small fish in a big pond.

‘No one cares what you’ve done. They’re trying to get a cut on Justin Bieber’s record, they don’t care about Ricki-Lee, so it’s hard, you feel like you’re fighting every single day,’ she shared.

After being in the spotlight over the last 13 years, Ricki recently shared in a Twitter Q&A that her new single came from a place of reflecting on her life’s ups and downs.

Setting the mood for latest album scheduled for release in the upcoming months, she said that this time round the songs will be ‘more about telling stories than making you shake your ass’.
