Ricky Gervais makes history as the first British comedian to sell-out a 20,000 seat Scotiabank Arena in Canada during his Armageddon tour

Ricky Gervais has made history as the first British comedian to sell-out a 20,000 capacity arena in Canada during his Armageddon tour.

The comedian, 62, performed at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto in August during the Canadian leg of his Armageddon tour.

His record-breaking night comes just months after he received a Guinness World Record for the most lucrative single night of stand-up comedy.

In May, Ricky performed at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, and ticket sales for his May 6 performance banked him an unbelievable £1.4 million.

The certificate read: ‘The highest gross for a single stand-up performance is £1,410,000 ($1,790,206.50) and was achieved by Ricky Gervais (UK) at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, USA on 6 May 2023’.

Armageddon has so far made an incredible £26.4 million and Ricky’s net worth has shot up to £132 million.

Speaking about his achievement at the time, Ricky said: ‘Thank you Hollywood Bowl for one of the most surreal nights of my life,’

‘What a venue. What a crowd.’ Gervais continued: ‘I can’t even imagine what my mum would think about me playing the Hollywood Bowl.

‘I hope she would be horrified by the language, tell me I looked fat, and be secretly proud.’

Speaking previously about his entry into the iconic book, Gervais said it would have been a huge source of pride for his late mum.

‘When I was little, I’d get the the Guinness Book of Records for Xmas every year,’ he wrote on social media.

‘The whole family would read it. I think my mum would be prouder of me being in this book than anything else I’ve done.’

Netflix has bought the rights to Armageddon and will air it in 2024. This marks Gervais’ third comedy collaboration with the streaming service.

Speaking exclusively to LADbible, Ricky said: ‘I think Armageddon is my favourite tour so far.

‘To break the world record at the Hollywood Bowl was surreal, but breaking the record for Canada was very special too as I’m half Canadian.

‘Why else would I have a daft surname like Gervais?’

Armageddon will end in London at Wembley’s OVO Arena in December, having begun in Oxford in November 2022.
