Rihanna cuts a stylish figure in all white ensemble as she attends cricket match in Durham

She recently revealed she has been keeping a low profile while quietly living in London for the last few months.

And Rihanna appeared to be making the most of her time on British shores, when she attended the Sri Lanka vs West Indies, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in Durham with her personal trainer, Jamie Granger, on Monday afternoon.

The Barbados-born singer, 31, who cut a stylish figure in a large white jacket paired with a matching crop top and high-waisted white trousers, got decidedly animated as she cheered on the West Indies team during the international showdown at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.

Also sporting a large pair of shades, Rihanna completed her look with bright red lipstick, while she wore her hair in long braids.

Rihanna appeared in high spirits as she enjoyed the match, laughing and chatting with a friend while sipping on a drink. However, her excitement was dampened when Sri Lanka beat the West Indies by 23 runs.

As a native of Barbados, Rihanna’s links to the sport run deep, as she attended a school which has a long history of producing countless top tier cricketers.

Before embarking on a singing career that would make her a global superstar, she attended Bridgetown’s Combermere School with cricketer Chris Jordan, whose fast bowling skills would later be employed by both Sussex and England.

And while Rihanna and Jordan have enjoyed phenomenal success in their respective fields (Jordan is regarded as one of the best fielders in England), the sportsman has revealed that the old classmates seamlessly pick up where they’ve left off whenever they run into each other at home.

‘I remember Rihanna well,’ the BBC quoted Jordan as saying back in 2014. ‘I guess she was always a good singer at school. I like her songs very much and they’re on my iPod, but I don’t think she has much interest in cricket.

‘When I go back to Barbados we see each other and stuff. She’s a very humble girl and I’m just glad everything worked out well for her.’

And Jordan isn’t the only cricketer who Rihanna counted as a classmate – she also went to school with West Indies batsman Kraigg Brathwaite and West Indies Twenty20 International captain Carlos Brathwaite (who are unrelated).

It’s been said that Rihanna was protective of Kraigg, who was four years her junior, as his slight frame attracted the attention of bullies.

In fact, rumour has it that the future pop star would go as far as having physical fights with boys in the school to protect Kraigg.

And their bond has remained over the years, with Rihanna providing front row tickets for Kraigg and his entire under-19 West Indies team to one of her shows in the USA when they were in the country for a camp before the junior World Cup in 2012.

And while Carlos has been proud to share that he was once classmates with Rihanna, he believes he’d be stiff competition for the star on the dancefloor.

He told the Hindustan Times in 2016: ‘If there was ever a dance-off between me and fellow Caribbean Rihanna, I think it would be a really close call. I could give her a run for her money.’

Of course, Rihanna’s appreciation for cricket can be indulged, now that she has moved to the English capital, with Lord’s Cricket Ground being just a stone’s throw from her north-west London home.

She recently told The New York Times that she’s been ‘keeping a little incognito’ while staying in the capital and is enjoying the relative anonymity the city brings.

On learning of the move, Brits went wild with excitement – with many joining the dots from a previous selfie Rihanna shared which had a supermarket bag from Sainsbury’s in the backdrop.

In the same New York Times interview, she admitted that inspiration for her new luxury fashion line, Fenty, was easy to find.

The songstress was ‘hands-on’ in the creative process and said she used herself ‘as the muse’ when cultivating the collection.
