Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty earns praise for launching a ‘universal’ lipstick in chocolate brown

Rihanna’s cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty has earned praise for launching a brown nude lipstick — to the delight of customers who have clamored for more inclusive nude ranges.

The brand debuted a new shade of its liquid lipstick Stunna on Friday, describing it as a ‘rich chocolate brown that looks good on everybody’.

Rihanna, 30, wore the hue to New York Fashion Week earlier this month during her Savage x Fenty line, making sure the matte shade matched her spaghetti-strapped dress for a 90s-inspired look.

Rihanna, of course, posed in another snap to promote Unveil to Fenty’s Instagram followers, this time wearing black sunglasses and letting the new shade take center stage.

Fenty referred to the new lipstick color as a ‘universal chocolate BO$$ nude’ in an Instagram post, making it clear the shade is meant to fit the needs of a wide number of customers.

Fans of the brand promptly fell in love with the new color and took to social media to praise Fenty for finally debuting a nude shade for darker complexions.

Many make-up brands stick to lighter hues when designing their nude ranges, meaning their shades often seem tailored for paler skin tones.

Rihanna tested ‘numerous shades’ before deciding on the rich brown that became Unveil, according to Fenty.

There has been growing demand for inclusive make-up lines, and customers have called on the beauty industry to expand nude ranges beyond light complexions.

Fenty was widely praised in September 2017 when it launched 40 different shades of foundation — and once again won over the hearts of customers with its new nude lipstick.

‘Rihanna dropped a “universal nude” in a shade called “chocolate”. We are the Fenty default,’ one person raved on Twitter.

Another person pointed out just how meaningful the new shade is, adding: ‘Never in my life have I been part of the standard or default. Rihanna really did that!!’

‘I love how Fenty Beauty’s nudes are actual nude colors,’ someone else tweeted.

Some made immediate plans to purchase the Unveil lipstick, such as one Twitter user who wrote: ‘It’s a nude for black girls. I’m deffo getting it.’

Shortly after debuting Unveil, Rihanna followed up the release with the launch of another shade – Uncuffed – which is described as a ‘rosy mauve’ that provides the ‘perfect, just-kissed shade’.

Once again, Rihanna showcased the lip color on the Fenty Beauty Instagram account by applying it to several different skintones in order to show how it would look on each.
