Rihanna’s ‘SOS’ songwriter reveals a secret about the song’s second verse that has gone unnoticed until now

Rihanna’s SOS songwriter is blowing people’s minds with a secret from the track that has gone completely overlooked for almost two decades.

E Kidd Bogart wrote the 2006 hit with Jonathan Rotem and Edward Cobb, and together, they had been sitting on a huge Easter egg from its second verse.

Unpacking the chart-topping song in a new interview with Daniel Wall, record executive Bogart, 46, revealed that SOS comprises number one song titles from the 80s.

‘The whole second verse of that song is 80 song titles strung together as sentences because I thought it would be super clever,’ he exclaimed.

‘They’re all number one songs from the 80s.’

SOS was released on Valentine’s Day through Def Jam Recordings in 2006.

The song, which uses a stereo two-bar loop from Soft Cell’s song Tainted Love, was an instant hit and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks, becoming Rihanna’s first number one single on the chart.

Besides writing SOS for Rihanna, Bogart also wrote Beyoncé tracks Halo and Hello, as well as Britney Spears songs Love Me Down and Everybody.

Earlier this week, Rihanna, 36, opened up about motherhood and why she considers it an ‘Olympic sport’.

The Fenty Beauty owner and her partner A$AP Rocky welcomed two children together over the past two years.

Rihanna became a first-time mom in May 2022, after she gave birth to baby boy RZA, and welcomed a second son, Riot Rose, in August 2023.

‘It’s an Olympic sport for real,’ the Umbrella hitmaker joked in a new red carpet interview with Access Hollywood when she was asked about what it’s like to be a boy mom.

‘It’s fun, I literally, I enjoy it so much, because I am just looking at them, living through them, and I’m amazed by every new discovery of theirs, even their boundaries,’ Rihanna gushed.

She also explained that her two sons are not only learning from her, but she’s learning from them, too.

‘They’re teaching me how to be their mom, as much as I’m teaching them how to be in this world and guide them as best as I can,’ the businesswoman said.
