Mortgage Choice millionaire’s son to remain behind bars after terrifying CCTV of him allegedly holding up petrol station with an air rifle for just $400 emerges

The son of a multimillionaire will remain in custody after CCTV emerged of the amateur rapper allegedly holding up a petrol station with an air rifle. 

Riley Higgins, the son of Mortgage Choice co-founder Peter Higgins, will remain in custody for at least two more weeks after being charged with the alleged robbery of the Metro Petroliam Service Station in Avalon on Sydney’s northern beaches on August 17. 

The 23-year-old was due to make a bail application in Manly Court on Thursday however his solicitor Paul McGirr said the application would not proceed. 

Mr McGirr told the court release application would be made later this month once his client undergoes a mental health assessed and secures a place to stay, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Police said officers were called to the station on Barrenjoey Road in Avalon following reports of an alleged armed robbery around 4.15pm on August 17. 

Higgins was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon a short time later.

A statement from NSW Police alleged a man threatened two service station employees with a weapon ‘before fleeing the scene with cash’. 

The 23-year-old, who attended the elite private boys school Scots College, did not apply for bail when he first appeared in court via video link on August 18.

Higgins is yet to enter into a plea with Magistrate Robyn Denes scheduling the bail application in two weeks time on September 15.

Higgins is heir to the multimillionaire fortune forged by his father Peter, who launched Mortgage Choice in 1992 but is no longer affiliated with the company. 

The Australian mortgage broking firm has a customer base of more than 350,000 and a residential home loan panel of over 40 lenders nationwide.

The company is estimated to be worth about $244million.
