Rising star Ingrid Lindblad posts the lowest round ever by an amateur at the women’s US Open as Swede shoots a six-under-par 65 in the first round

Sweden’s Ingrid Lindblad shot 65 on the opening day of the 77th women’s US Open to take the early lead and set a record for the lowest round by an amateur in the event’s history.

The 22-year-old, playing in just her fourth major and paired with her idol and compatriot Annika Sorenstam, recorded seven birdies and only one bogey to finish six under at Pine Needles in North Carolina.

‘It just worked from fairway to green.’

The previous best amateur mark was a 66, which has been shot three times in the event’s history. 

At the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama was disqualified during his first round for using a non-conforming club.
