John Owen, who previously acknowledged that he is a nepo baby, told Today that it was easy to craft his character’s personality.
He said that he knows what it is like to be constantly compared to a parent when you are trying to forge your own path in life.
The actor admitted: ‘I pulled from a lot of source material, but the storyline is just a few slightly modified examples of what Rob has done to me over my life and the insanity of our dynamic so it’s very, very reflective of our actual relationship.’
Despite saying that his last name would hang over his acting auditions, John Owen is thankful for having had the boost – and he now wants to put it to good use.
John Owen concluded: ‘It’s important for every person in my position who has had privilege in their life and in their upbringing to recognize that and to recognize that I had a foot in the door that many people didn’t have.
‘But I also think it’s important to say that I worked my butt off once I got in that door and that I’m very grateful for the opportunities that have come into my life.
‘My hope is that if I find success, I can help others and use my platform to get more people in the door.’
The father-son duo have previously appeared together in other on screen endeavors including sitcom The Grinder in 2015 and romance movie Holiday in the Wild in 2019.

John Owen revealed how Rob was not initially keen on the idea of him having a career as an actor
Speaking in the latest issue of Men’s Health, John Owen, discussed in more detail how his relationship with his father and his mother Sheryl Berkoff has changed as he has got older.
He said: ‘Your parents, no matter who they are, always just bug you. Always. Even when you’re an adult. Your relationship changes as you get older and your parents become more like your friends—but they still bug you. As they should.’
John Owen also revealed how Rob was not initially keen on the idea of him having a career as an actor.
He caught the acting bug early, appearing in school plays like The Wizard Of Oz from a young age.
But Rob tried to ‘beat it out of him,’ not wanting to see him succumb to the pitfalls of fame if he were to try and have a career in the business.
John Owen did take a break from acting for a time, especially after he became worried people only wanted to be friends with him because he had a famous dad.
He said: ‘The number of times I got compared to my dad, and the number of times he was brought up in conversation, made me so uncomfortable that I wanted to move as far away from that as possible.’
