Robert Irwin viciously attacked by snake which bit his dad Steve Irwin

Horrifying moment Robert Irwin is viciously attacked by the same snake which bit his famous dad Steve Irwin: ‘Lucky he didn’t get my eyeball’

Robert Irwin has been bitten by a snake several years after the same species of serpent attacked his late father Steve.

In a recently resurfaced video, which was taken back in 2020, the young conservationist, 19, was seen being bitten on the face by a wild carpet python.

Robert shared the footage of the shocking attack to Twitter, noting the eerie similarities to a snake attack Steve suffered ‘decades’ ago.

‘Déjà vu. Dad and me getting bitten by the same species of snake (carpet python) decades apart,’ Robert wrote in the caption.

‘I found this python on the side of a road, but as you can see, sometimes snake rescues don’t quite go to plan.’

The video opened with Steve, who died during a stingray attack in 2006 aged 44, holding a carpet python while filming his wildlife docuseries Crocodile Hunter.

He barely got a few words out about the beautiful creature before it lunged at his face, sinking its fangs into his right cheek just below the eye.

Not one to be scared of ‘aggressive’ animals, Steve took the attack in stride and continued to hold the reptile as he educated his viewers.

‘Now this is a python, a carpet python. I’ve just taken a bite. Now pythons, of course, can be aggressive,’ he said.

Decades later, at the age of 16, son Robert jumped out to rescue his own carpet python he found crossing a busy dirt road.

‘There’s a good snake. When I first found this guy, there’s no way I’d be putting him up near my face,’ Robert said as he held up the animal.

Much like his father, Robert barely got the words out before the snake lunged for his face, leaving wounds on his nose and by his right eye in an almost identical injury to his father.

‘I got a little bit too close, so he gave me a bite. They’ve got extremely sharp teeth, it’s like little needles. Lucky he didn’t get my eyeball,’ Robert said.

He seemed undisturbed by the attack, all smiles as he wiped the blood off his face and continued to give educational facts on the creature which almost maimed him.

The video ended with a side by side shot of Steve and Robert sporting huge grins as blood trailed down their faces from their vicious bite wounds.
