GORAK (NB) has not raced at Haydock since finishing fourth in a Group Three contest in 2023, for which he was raised 19lb by the handicapper to a mark of 105. He now returns there, having registered a win from his only other run at the track, for a Class Two (2.40).

Last season he placed twice off his current mark of 94 or higher. Willie Mullins has a strong hand in the bet365 Gold Cup (4.10 Sandown) but RESPLENDENT GREY (NAP) can provide Sean Bowen with a winner on the day he is crowned champion jockey for the first time.

The form of the selection’s second behind Handstands in a Grade Tw at the same venue last December has been boosted and he should stay on well with headgear applied.

2.05 LEICESTER

COMMANCHE FALLS did not win last season, but ran well in a number of decent sprint races. He was a Group Three and dual Listed winner in 2023 and can defy top weight today.

2.40 HAYDOCK

GORAK is a horse that often races prominently, so his draw in stall one looks to be ideal. On top of that, he is a previous winner over today’s course and distance.

6.05 RIPON

VENTURE CAPITAL (NAP) ended last season in good form and was probably in need of the run when weakening out of contention on his reappearance at Pontefract earlier this month.
