Robin Thicke and Paula Patton settle on joint custody

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton hashed out the details of their joint custody of seven-year-old son Julian Fuego Thicke just weeks before the singer announced his girlfriend is pregnant. 

Court documents obtained by DailyMail.com reveal the couple have settled to split custody, with the exact terms of how they will parent laid on in print.

This is the ending of a nasty and public custody battle where Patton obtained a retraining order against her ex and attempted to block him from seeing their son.

The terms state Thicke, 40, and Patton, 41, will not be allowed to talk negatively to Julian about the other parent and they all must attend family therapy until at least December. Julian also has to attend therapy on his own and the former couple must split the cost of the sessions. 

The documents signed July 24 were filed weeks before Thicke announced he is expecting a baby with his girlfriend of two years, April Love Geary, 22. The future child is not mentioned in the custody agreement.

The agreement states Thicke and Patton will switch-up who has Julian during the holidays depending if it is an even or an odd year.  

The documents state the former couple has to attend family therapy with Julian until at least the end of this year 

In January, Patton requested an emergency order granting her custody of their son, claiming Thicke spanked him too hard.

Julian’s school called Department of Child and Family Services after an employee claimed that the boy said  his father ‘punches’ him. Thicke denied striking his son in a manner that was against the law and claimed his ex wife was seeking revenge because she didn’t get an invitation to his father’s funeral. 

Patton claimed he abused her as well won a temporary restraining order against him where he was allowed only supervised visits with their son.

In March, an explosive phone conversation revealed Julian was trying to avoid seeing his father. 

The 76-second recording features a female complainant, understood to be Julian’s nanny, requesting police assistance after the child allegedly expressed reluctance to go to a local park with Thicke. 

The audio clip obtained by TMZ of a call made to 911 by Patton and the child’s nanny, the pair ask police to intervene and ‘enforce a restraining order’ because Julian, six, was ‘crying and praying to the angels’ at the mere thought of the visit.

Patton said: ‘We have a restraining order,’ she informs the operator. ‘The person is within distance of the restraining order so is in violation of it currently… it is agreed upon that he will not come to the park until we are gone, and then he comes.

‘This child is literally begging me and everyone else to call 911. That’s how much he does not want to go.’

In March, Patton called the police because Julian was so reluctant to spend time with his father during a supervised visit  

On Thursday,  Geary took to Instagram  to announce her pregnancy with a scan picture, though later shared a first look at her growing baby bump with a shot taken during her recent holiday to Hawaii.

‘Happy in Hawaii with my lil peanut,’ she captioned the image, which depicted her sitting in a zen yoga pose while clutching at her expanding tummy.  

The photo came after April posted a shot of her ultrasound scan, writing alongside it: ‘Robin and I are very excited to share with you all that we’re having a baby! The due date is March 1st, Alan’s birthday!’  

Robin’s father, actor and songwriter Alan Thicke, passed away at the age of 69 in December 2016. 

He would have turned 71 on March 1, 2018, adding a special poignancy to the couple’s impending arrival.

According to TMZ, the happy couple are expecting a baby girl, a brother for Robin’s son Julian, seven.

A source told TMZ: ‘Robin and April told Julian this week and he’s super excited for a little sister.’ 

The Lost Without You hit-maker shares Julian with his ex wife Paula Patton, 41, who he split from in February 2014 after nine years of marriage. 

The couple had been together for more than two decades before their divorce was finalized in March 2015. 

Speaking about their shock break-up at the time, Robin dismissed allegations that cheating lead to their demise, insisting there was ‘a long list’ of reasons they couldn’t make it work, though hinted he was solely responsible.

He told radio station Hot 97 in July 2014: ‘[Cheating] is not why we’re apart. We’re apart because we just couldn’t be together anymore for a while. 

‘There’s a hundred different reasons, there isn’t just one. There’s a long list… I changed, and I got a little too selfish, a little too greedy and little too full of myself.’

Robin embarked on a blossoming romance with model April following the break-up, with the couple going public with their romance in May 2015.

April has previously addressed her 18-year age gap with Robin, writing on her Instagram page: ‘We’re out here LIVING while most of y’all are still bothered by an age gap.’ 

The parents-to-be recently enjoyed a romantic babymoon to Hawaii, with April tellingly cropping her mid-section out of her swimwear snaps on social media.

In 2014, Robin attempted to win his ex-wife back with the album Paula and lead single Get Her Back.

Unfortunately, the album was a flop, with Robin saying last year that he now regrets releasing it. 

‘Look, my songwriting has always been autobiographical, and always will be,’ he told Entertainment Tonight.

‘The Paula album was no different. I was struggling through my toughest time, and I decided to share it.  

‘In hindsight, the only thing I would have done differently was, I wouldn’t have promoted it or sold it. 

‘I would have given it away. That would have kept the purity of the message intact.’

Robin previously said of his relationship with Julian: ‘We do everything (together). 

‘We go to theme parks or museums or ball games or just go to the park on Saturday and sit around and walk for a few hours. Kick a ball and all that stuff that dads and kids do.”

And the singer also revealed Julian is showing signs he shares the same musical talent as his father.

Robin said: ‘Oh god, Julian can sing already. The other day he was singing What A Wonderful World in his end-of-school-year play. 

‘He just loves to sing and stand in front of everybody and hold the microphone and sing loud. He has a great voice.’

Meanwhile, Paula recently made it clear that she had well moved on from the father of her son, telling Sirius XM that she was finally back in the dating game. 

‘It’s interesting. It’s fun and weird and challenging,’ she confessed.

‘I feel like I’m a teenager all over again in a weird way. I’m learning things.’  She revealed that texting a guy is new to her and sometimes makes her want to throw her phone ‘in the trashcan.’

When asked if she would give it a go on dating apps like Tinder she said: ‘I see my friends have a lot of fun on these sites,’ adding that she sometimes will swipe for them. 

But after thinking it through, Paula decided: ‘No, I haven’t done that. I don’t think I’ll do that.’
