Rod Stewart pays a surprise visit to model train store in Western Sydney

Rod Stewart finds his ‘downtown train’: Veteran rocker shocks staff at model train store in Sydney – and serenades them too

Sir Rod Stewart is currently on tour in Australia and on Wednesday he shocked the staff at a model train store in Western Sydney by making a surprise visit.

The legendary rocker, 78, dropped into the Woodpecker Model Railways shop in Pendle Hill to search for toy trains to add to his collection.

Stewart is a keen model train collector who has spent 30 years designing a model American city at his home in England.

Shop owner Marilyn shared a photo to Facebook of Rod grinning from ear to ear as he posed up a storm with the store staff.

‘He came in looking for bits and pieces. I was working at the front and heard him singing in the back,’ she told the Daily Telegraph.

‘I asked him how his collection was and whether he’d finished it. He said, “Oh it’s never finished”, and bought some American model cars.’

The sighting comes after Stewart rescheduled his anticipated concert at Mt Duneed Estate, which he will now perform with Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens, on Friday.

In a statement he sent out earlier this month, the rock star said he is ‘feeling great’ and asked fans to ‘please hang on to your tickets’.

‘I’m so happy to tell you all I’m feeling great and my Day on the Green concert in Geelong is happening on Friday 31st of March,’ he said.

‘Please hang on to your tickets. I hope you can still make it. It’s going to be extra fun with my friends Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens.’

Roundhouse Entertainment Director Michael Newton said he was ‘thrilled’ they were able to ‘find a free date’ for Stewart, Lauper and Stevens to do a make-up performance.

‘We thank everyone for their patience and appreciate ticket holders’ understanding regarding the rescheduled show, and the logistics involved in turning around a huge event like this,’ he said.

‘We are thrilled we could get this show back on the road for what will now be Sir Rod’s final Victorian show.’

It came after Stewart gave fans an update on his health after he was forced to cancel his Geelong show earlier this month.

The best-selling music artist told his fans he is doing well after suffering from a bout of strep throat.
