Rodri suggests Erling Haaland ‘needs to adapt’ despite his stellar start to the Premier League

Manchester City midfielder Rodri feels his new teammate Erling Haaland still ‘needs to adapt’ to the way the team needs him to play.

Haaland has had a remarkable start to his Premier League career, and rescued three points for Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday with a second-half hattrick against Crystal Palace.

The Norwegian striker is currently the top scorer in the league after picking up six goals in four games.

Despite this, his teammate Rodri feels he still ‘needs to be better at being involved in the game’

For Rodri, though, there is still more to come from Haaland. In quotes carried by the Telegraph, he said: ‘We understand that people doubt sometimes. 

‘But we know the player he is and what he came from. He needs three touches to score a goal, he’s an incredible player.’

‘It is tough in that position because we are used to playing with a false nine that moves a lot and now we have him as a reference who doesn’t move too much. He needs to adapt.

‘Of course, his natural talent makes the difference but he needs to do better at being involved in the game – when to come, when to drop, when to go to the space. It’s normal, we have just been together for one month.’

Despite Haaland’s form, City have not started the season as convincingly as many expected. They currently sit second and have dropped just two points, but a side of their calibre will be concerned after conceding five goals in their last two games.

They will be hoping got a better showing against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.
