Roma held to 0-0 draw by Genoa after controversial VAR decision

Roma 0-0 Genoa: Nicolo Zaniolo sees red just minutes after having a goal controversially ruled out by VAR as 10-man Genoa hold on for a hard-earned point

  • Roma entered the game having won their last three matches in all competitions
  • However, they rarely looked like breaking through Genoa’s defence on Saturday
  • Genoa defender Leo Oestigard was sent off with 21 minutes remaining
  • Nicolo Zaniolo thought he had scored a last-minute winner but it was disallowed
  • Zaniolo was sent off himself in added time as both teams finished with 10 men

Roma were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday afternoon.

After holding firm for over an hour, Genoa made things difficult for themselves when Leo Oestigard was sent off for bringing down Felix Afena-Gyan.

Roma thought they had taken full advantage when Nicolo Zaniolo fired home from the edge of the area in the last minute, but the goal was chalked off after a foul in the build-up, and Zaniolo was then sent off himself as both teams finished with 10 men and a share of the spoils.
