Critics accuse him of profiting off the presidency, but stays at luxury Trump hotels across the country have been marked down, analysis of rates at 13 properties reveals.
Trump Las Vegas has taken the biggest hit, experiencing a 63 per cent drop since before Trump took office, the Telegraph reported, based on an analysis conducted by FairFX.
Rates dropped from $844 to $314 at the hotel on the Las Vegas strip.
The second-biggest drop was at Trump Turnberry, a luxurious golf property Trump visited during the campaign.
According to its web site the hotel ‘long legendary for its iconic Edwardian luxury hotel overlooking its famous links golf courses in its enchanting coastal setting, with ocean views of Ailsa Craig and the Isle of Arran, is now even more magical.’
Rates dropped from $844 to $314 at the hotel on the Las Vegas strip – just one of the Trump hotels where room rates have gotten slashed since President Trump took office
The site calls the hotel the ‘ultimate golf and spa destination,’ but doesn’t hype the steep price cuts.
Trump’s luxury hotel in Washington, D.C. – the subject of a lawsuit that argues Trump is violating the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause by accepting foreign revenue paid by guests – saw a drop of 52 per cent.
Rates dropped from $1,650 to $792 per room. But the hotel is actually beating expectations, documents reviewed by the House Oversight Committee revealed.
Trump has repeatedly visited the hotel and its steakhouse restaurant during his presidency.
The hotel, located in a historic landmark, made $2 million in profit through August, the Washington Post reported, after forecasting a $2 million loss.
‘While big events, like the inauguration in Washington, will usually cause prices to rise in that city for a particular weekend, the decreases in other places suggest that it doesn’t necessarily pay to be president,”’ said Ian Strafford-Taylor, the CEO of FairFX, speaking to the Telegraph.
