He was refused bail and is due to face Mount Druitt Local Court later on Friday.

Rakic had moved into the Rooty Hill bungalow about a year ago. It was rented out until his marriage with his wife collapsed after two decades together.

Neighbours revealed the couple had been discussing selling the Rooty Hill home with a real estate agent who lives around the corner from the property.

Ms Rakic lived with her adult son Dion in the family home five minutes away in Hassall Grove.

Her Facebook profile is filled with pictures of her with her grandchild through her adult daughter, Amellia.

Around 8.15pm on Tuesday night, neighbours said they heard two ‘big loud screams’ then silence until police arrived some 15 minutes later.
